#01 Rajasthani folk : Lecdem
The fifth performance of SPIC MACAY IIT Palakkad chapter and the first performance of the year 2019 was a lecture-demonstration of Rajasthani folk, music and dance, by Mr. Suramnath and his group.
Kalbelia or Kabeliya is one of the most sensuous dance forms of Rajasthan, performed by a tribe of the same name. They are famous for their dance which is an integral part of their culture. Both men and women in the tribe participate in this activity to celebrate joyful occasions. In 2010, the Kalbelia folk songs and dances were declared a part of its Intangible Heritage List by UNESCO.
Mr. Suramnath has given stage performances and has conducted many shows in India and abroad for the last three decades along with his group and had received Rajayapal Award by Jaganonath Pahadia from former Prime Minister Shri Rajiv Gandhi.
The event started with lighting the lamp as a customary requirement. The artists were greeted with bouquets and garlands. After a few minutes, the program started and the artists mesmerized everyone with their beautiful performance. Rajasthani folk music has always been raw and original yet warm and compassionate in its spirit which was truly brought out by the artists in their awe pleasing and soothing performance. The whole program proved to be a complete bliss to attendees and the organizers. After the program ended, the artists were thanked and the evening came to an end.
